sir,
BRITISH EMBASSY, CHUNGKI NG.
May 6th, 1942.
With reference to my telegram No.502 I have
116
the honour to trenamit herewith a copy of a report by Mrs. Priestwood dealing with events and conditions in Hongkong subsequent to the surrender and in particular with conditions in the civilian internment camp at 3 tanley.
2. It will be observed that the report is disjointed and incomplete, the explanation of this being that it consists of notes written by Mrs. Friestwood on notes written, in the form of a letter to her, by Mr.V.P. Thompson, of the Hongkong Police, who escaped with her. Furthermore, Mrs. Priestwood has not given Mr.Thompson's notes in full, but has omitted some and amplified others on the basis of her own experience.
3. Although the report does not pretend to give a complete and balanced picture of conditions in the internment camp. it contains much information of value. and I have therefore thought it well to inform it to you.
I have etc..
(Sgd.) H. 3EYMOUR.

Robert Anthony Eden, M.C., M.
